I have ZERO sympathy for today’s inductee Lance Armstrong. He spent years choking whispers of truth. Not to mention that he lied to a grand jury about allegations of using performance-enhancing drugs (PEDs). Recently, news broke that he had a sit down aka confessional with Oprah.
*insert massive eye roll here*
Armstrong has an obligation to his supporters. I don’t understand how he didn’t have the balls (no pun intended) to be truthful when the whispers began, yet he can lay down his burdens to Oprah. I’ll give Armstrong credit though; he pedaled that lie to numerous victories, endorsements, and millions of dollars. On the other hand, all things accomplished by violating ethics come with a price. It may have taken some time, but the hammer finally dropped.
Despite all of this, I haven’t observed Armstrong show any remorse for his actions. After years of not giving a damn, why bother now? Whispers of truth get louder over time. If Armstrong feels that a sit down with Oprah is going to shed a sympathetic light on his situation, he’s elbow deep in disappointment.
With that said, The Recovering Pessimist hereby inducts Lance Armstrong into the Captain Obvious Hall of Fame.
